siege1863 Posted June 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2007 I guess you would consider this "homefront' although it was worn by the veteran himself. This piece is made of sterling and is inscribed on the front "Wilbie Welborn" and on the back "First Solo Flight 11-4-43." You may remember my posting of the V-E Day time card. This bracelet belonged to the same man. The mystery I now have to solve is how he went from flying (as a cadet, at least) in the Air Corps in November 1943 to working at Servel making fighter plane wings in May 1945. There must have been some event that caused him to leave military service and become employed at Servel as a civilian. I do not find Welborn in the WWII enlistment database. Apart from the bracelet, I can find no indication of military service.
