WW1 or earlier unit insignia in a photo?

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I picked up 2 military photos and a real photo postcard from the same person (identical handwriting) from a dealers junk box at at antique show. One of the photos (shown here) has this written on the reverse: "Just before moving our YMCA building". It shows a military band waiting to play. I can date this to the era 1904-1918 because the real photo postcard in the set has a stamp box which dates to that time. So it is WWI or earlier. It MAY be in Texas because written on the real photo postcard (showing an extensive tent camp) it says: "Camp for a night on my way to Austin".

My question is about the insignia or symbol painted on the end of the building. Can anyone identify it? Is it a unit insignia? I show a larger view of it below.
