VMI88 Posted November 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2009 I picked up this WWI dog tag this past weekend. It appears to be dug, but other than that I don't have any information. Can anyone decipher the unit? I can make out "B 1ST CAV. WN" but the last part of the unit is obscured. Does anyone know what the last abbreviation is? Thanks, Bill

BEAST Posted November 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 10, 2009 Wisconsin was my first thought also. The 1st Wisconsin Cavalry was reorganized into the 57th FA Bde with much of the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry forming the 120th FA during the war.
BEAST Posted November 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2009 VMI88, Is there a serial number on the back? It looks like he has his rack or soldier's number on the front.

No, there are no markings on the back. Thanks to all for the information -- I'll have to pursue the Wisconsin angle. Bill
