anelles Posted November 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2009 I don't normally collect patches, but I usually grab them if they look interesting. My local surplus store has a velcro backed ACU 2nd Marine Div patch (looks used) for $1, are these rare? Worth picking up? I'm considering going back for it, to add it to my modest patch collection. Who would have worn these anyway?
atb Posted November 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2009 A relativily small number of Soldiers have been authorized to wear the SSI of the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions (and a couple of other Marine units- see the US Army Institute of Heraldry website) as Former Wartime Service Shoulder Sleeve Insignia because their Army units were directly attached to the Marine units in Iraq. Army Regulation AR 670-1, paragraph 28-17, AR 670-1 should be consulted for details. Rare? Who knows? I would not think they would be rare now, but you might as well pick it up now if it is inexpensive. New ones in Army Clothing Sales Stores are expensive.
