Wood Toy Airplanes and Plans

Some may recall when I posted the below photos of the toy airplanes I acquired from the orignal owner, now in his seventies. They were made by his father and given to him as a Christmas gift in 1943. There are numerous pieces in a box and all are interchangable, which allows for the construction of a P-38 Lightning and twin-engine or four-engine craft. The planes can even be fitted with turrets! All pieces are held together with dowels or slip-fit.

Well, the other day, I was able to purchase the set of plans the father used to make the planes. Comparing the parts lists, I can see the father made a few extra components, such as another wing, so that his son could assemble two planes at once. The plans are dated 1943, and were advertised in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I am trying to convince my brother to make a set for my nephews!

What an excellent opportunity to get not only the vintage toys but the plans from 1943 used to make them.

Thanks for posting,

Jim
