Sabrejet Posted October 21, 2009 #1 Posted October 21, 2009 An adaptation of the basic M-1 shell with hinged earflaps which fit snuggly over flight helmets, as seen here. There is no liner..the suspension is attached directly to the shell. This helmet still had its original instructional leaflet with it. The "velvety" flock finish was intended to prevent the cold steel from icing up at altitutde. Worn with the M-3 here is an A-11 flying helmet, B-8 goggle and A-14 oxygen mask.

It's not unusual for the felt pads to be missing from these helmets. I think the adhesive just deteriorates with the passage of time. One of mine came adrift so I stuck it back with a spot of epoxy!
