The Liberator Collection

Recommended Posts

Well, most of you have seen stuff from my collection all over the board, but I thought it would be better to start a separate topic showing what makes my clock tick....
I've been collecting since 1976 and have always concentrated on WW2 US Army in the ETO objects.
I've always had a special interest in items from the 29ID... Don't ask my why though... I guess it could have something to do with the way ordinary boys from rural 1930's America were called upon to travel thousands of miles to meet their faith on the beaches of Normandy...

I hope you enjoy the items and feel free to post comments, questions and remarks.... And no, normally nothing's for sale...

Cheers,

Johan

Lt Fred WHITT, Forward Observer (FO), 283rd Field Artillery Battalion

Although this jacket bears insignia of the 110FA of the 29ID, it was worn by Fred Whitt of the 283FA during the war.

Either he chose to add the 29th insignia for the return to the US, or the jacket was used by another Artillery Officer during or just post WW2....
Jacket has traces of both 7th and 1st Army patches... The 283FA fought all over Europe in 1944-1945 ans was attached to a multiple units amongst which several armies and Divisions, including the 29ID...
Whitt's daughter provided me with copies of his paperwork and a picture.......
