What is made of?

Never seen one like this before in books nor in real.

Could be a fantasy piece for a jacket or so.

I don't think it was made by Disney Studios.

Here is an interesting variation. I have no idea what era or what it was used for. Only one I've ever seen and I think it cost me $12.00.

Any ideas? obviously a jacket patch.

Looks like it was on a uniform.

Variation of 8 wheeler:

Notice the head and the "ribs".

Hi Nellis,

Yes, the patch comes from eBay. I took a chance and hopefully it is a genuine error patch, not an altered one. It looked ok to me (and Jim). ;)

Gee, wish I was there now, in Foy and Bastogne.

I hope to go there again soon, hopefully November or December.

That cap sure looks nice eventhough a bit moth eaten.

Nicely dated as well.

But it will go high judging by who is bidding on it.

Hm, I recently picked up a TD overseas cap from eBay in very nice condition.

They show up once in a while.

Bastogne is about 180 kms from my home.

I used to go one or two times in a month to the Ardennes area, driving around visiting those places.

I hope to do it again soon.

Here's a Tank Destroyer variant I can guarantee no one else has. On my recent trip to Japan we bought out a WWII/Occuption through Korean War embroidery shop. The shop was located in Osaka in the basement of the Daimaru department store ( which at the time was the main BX for the area). What we bought was all the display boards that hung on the wall plus some other embroidered flags with insignia sewn all over them. All the patches are Japanese raw silk, was some being quilted and some are bullion. It looked like the embroiderer had a copy of the WWII National Geographis and made one of each to show the work he could do. We will probably start another thread later and show some of this work. But back to this TD. It is raw silk with a semi-quilted background. The second photo is a flat view, but not sure how it is going to look, as it shows the detail of the relief sewing. TREDHED ( Dave Kaufman) was over yesterday to see the collection and his jaw hit the ground on the first display board.

The patches on these display boards are out of this world. The detail and workmanship is unparalleled today. Some of the patches indeed, when viewed at the side, ARE 3-D. Look at the detail alone on this TD patch - especially around the gun barrel and treads.

Off eBay as of last night:

Enlisted Men's Tank Destroyer collar disc.

These things are getting expensive lately.

Nate, I like the one with the extra orange thread.
I guess you're as much bitten by the TD bug than I am.

I would display it in a case with glass shelves together with other TD items.

:)

Prices of TD caps vary a lot, depending on the interest.

Sometimes one is lucky to find it for about 35 - 40 USD, sometimes you pay an arm and a leg for them.

I have two TD caps so far one of which is a summer type.

Erwin

That definitely works!! I just need to find another cheap display case!!

Carey: Thanks!! It should be here in 2-3 days. The M-41 is KILLER!!!! w00t.gif

What is the other patch on the officer uniform?

Looks like part of the soldier's name (?)

Erwin

It could be!! It's hard to tell and I have the cap in front of me!!

Some possibilities:

* Netz

* Hetz

or "ietz" ?

Maybe it is possible to look combined with the partial ASN?

It will take some time though.

His last name starts with a "T".

You have for example: T****IETZ with ASN 23***7601

Whatever his name is, it sure is a very nice cap you got there! thumbsup.gif

Thats a neat one Jim!! Have a shot of the back?

Any more thoughts as to why the orange thread

is lacking?

Nate,

The base material is a twill or satin and is very light, almost pink. There are others out there, this is just the first that I got a shot at. A nice variation I was glad to finally get. I'll compare it to my other twill patch when it arrives, but from what I see in the photo, they are identical with the exception of the color of the material.

I'll post better photos when it arrives.
