Wailuna Posted September 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2009 This civilian war worker at the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot is wearing the obsolete insignia for Private First Class, Quartermaster Corps, that was authorized for wear on the blue dress uniform from 1913 to 1919 (Emerson's Chevrons p. 152). According to Emerson, these insignia were made at the Philadelphia Depot. Evidently they still had stock-on-hand to put to good use during WWII. Note that these insignia were made in counter-facing pairs. The insignia sample shown was the left-sleeve design; the lady pictured here is wearing the right-sleeve design (source: The National Geographic Magazine, November 1942).
