vietnam m1911a1 lanyard

Recommended Posts

were lanyards issued with m1911a1's in vietnam?

the reason i ask is because in tm 9-1005-211-12 (1968) in basic issued items it list:

magazine cartridge, brush cleaning small arms m5,rod cleaning small arms m4,holster pistol hip m1916,holster pistol shoulder m7

it dosen't list a lanyard or take down tool (stanley tool or whatever it was called part of the squad cleaning kit)

i all so looked in tm9-1005-211-34 (1964) and there is no lanyard listed there also ,but in the m9 operators manual tm 9-1005-317-10 it list a lanyard so why wouldn't they be listed in the operators manual for the m1911a1?

I have a pistol lanyard that I used in Vietnam. I was in the Navy but all our gear was Army stuff. I don't remember how I got it. I was always afraid I would loose my pistol in the water. Maybe this will help you.

Incidentally this is identical to the lanyard that has been issued up until at least a couple years ago. Not sure what is being issued now.

Still Issued with the M9, though a lot of people use the coiled breakaway "Blackhawk" versions in the sandbox.
