Mike Tucker,

Thanks for the awesome SOG pics you've posted to this thread!

Owen,

Since I haven't had the opportunity to inspect your ERDL jacket in person, why don't you send it to me and I will tell you it got lost in the mail!

Chris ,

No sweat it is on its way via UPS .

In 6 years UPS only lost 1 box of mine .

I ship at least 75 boxes per month for my clothing business .

The 1 box lost went to Scott Miller containing a Invisible ERDL set .

He wrote me a scathing Email calling me a scum bag trying to rip him off .

Well it seems he is the one pulling scams on many collectors who are part of OUR collecting comunity .

Sad guy with mixed up brain .

If you want to play with it NO sweat , but Paul has booked it for an lend when I am out of town next !!!!

Sorry Bob ,

I forgot to mention that .

And as a post script , I thought there was 2 pairs of trousers in the box .

During SM rant against me he called me out as he said there was only 1 pair in the box .

Now as you know I foun d the other pair under my desk at work weeks later .

How did he know this if UPS lost the box , which according to them they left at his door step .

Fishy to say the least .

But sorry off topic , Chris you opened up a gaping wound !!!

After speaking with Jason Hardy he added another theory that none us us looked at. He believes this could have been a FAC Covey back seater. They were not allowed to wear insignia either, and it would explain the side tailoring, as to keep it fitted better for getting in and out of a plane.

Hi all

Nice to see the jacket got moved into the adult section.

If Jason thinks that the jacket was made for a back seater I will respect his opinion .

Jason Hardy is just about the most knowledgeable man out there talking to SOG vets alive so he knows what he is talking about .

That being said would someone be kind enough to explain how and why a back seater would come to be wearing a jacket with only medical information in the middle of a combat zone .

Thanks

i was so taken back by your jacket i took a burst of six

i emailed your pics to a b-53 one-zero sog vet

told him about the debate he repleyed with this

Jack,

I had a shirt like the one shown and had ABNEG nametag on left pocket.

I wore it at least once in the field as it got ripped in several places and i had it repaired. I gave it to a friend when i left and then when i got to nha trang that was designated as the uniform that we'd come home in.

I came home with group mar 2/71./ I wore a brand new uniform which really pissed me off as i looked like a new guy.

Note the shirt is tucked in to keep from fouling a snap link.

Jack,

mho the blood grp marked shirts were for opns.

Why would anyone wear these in camp.? We wore dogtags except in the field. Usually.

Also this marking was a bit of theater as the evac hosp ALWAYS did blood work before doing a transfusion.

jim

hope this helps i belive jim was in a hatchet force

Very good information Aips .

Notice he said he tucked in the jacket ?

It has been stated that the ERDL SOGjackets had their lower pockets removed .

This one has not had them removed thus leading to the Back seat theory .

The plot thickens .

I have to agree with Steve on this one. Not saying it is not authentic, but probably a camp worn shirt. Especially since it is ERDL. I have plenty of photographs of this type of badged shirt, but all are worn in camp and no photographs of them worn in the field.

The caption is RT Idaho, 1971.

To me Bowra is wearing an ERDL shirt.

On other photos taken later he is also wearing that kind of modified jacket when he was working with FANK.

What Jason said, was just like the teams opearting cross border. the Fac Pilot's and Rider's wore no patches and carried no-identification. So if they went down they were not identified right away. They wore the blood types on the shirts for if they were wounded and got rescued. Plus, a rear seated was usually someone who had already been on a team, and most were former 1-0's, so they could have worn their older shirts.
