LoadedColt45 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 8, 2009 Right on - I thought the blue boarder would be a lighter blue color like the one shown above. But I have seen a few of these being sold as original WWII ovals. Glad I checked! I am trying to build a collection of 101st regiment ovals but almost every one I come by seems to be a reproduction. Thanks for your help guys!

pac_bob Posted September 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2009 Here is a provenanced WWII 501st example as worn by a member of RHQ/501st. Hope this helps... The "thin border" oval also exists in dark blue. The thicker border ovals all date from the 1950s. At some point, 1-3 stripes were added to the sides to indicate the first-third battalions. Abn Inf Posted September 11, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 11, 2009 Would this one have been worn on a Class A uniform with sterling wings over the patch...? Yes some 501st soldiers did wear the oval on Class A's with metal jump wings.
