Guys would use German weapons and when they ran out of ammo, they just threw it away. The only downer he added was you wouldn't want to get caught by the Germans with it. Dad himself had a carbine, Garand, and a Thompson depending on the terrain they were in. He kept the weapons wrapped in a large "waxy" German paper wrap when not in use to keep them clean.
