World War II The IV Corps Headquarters was located at Atlanta, Georgia, when the United States entered WW II. After establishing defenses in the American Theater, the Corps assisted in training other Corps Headquarters for combat before embarking for the Mediterranean Theater in March of 1944. The IV Corps was initially assigned to the Fifth Army Reserve in Italy and became operational on May 28th and participated in the destruction of the Gustav Line when Corps elements attacked and captured Mt. Campi, San Martino, and Priverno.
