sigsaye Posted August 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2009 Yes, they are US Navy officer hats. The top one is for Ensigns to Leuitnant Commanders. This one belonged to a Leuitenant Junior Grade (LTJG). The second hat is missing its chin strap, but it is for a Midshipman (Cadet). usmcraidergirl Posted August 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2009 Looks a member has already helped you with the explanation of the piece. The approximate age of the pieces is that they are from the World War II to Korean War period. Here is some information I found about the original owner: GEORGE K. TWEDDEL JR. Speciality: Medical Doctor (MD) Status: Married - Angeline Battaglia Born: November 24, 1921 - Pennsylvania Died: June 6, 1997 - Fair Lawn, New Jersey Last Known Address: 1406 Plymouth Dr, Fair Lawn, New Jersey A couple neat notes.... His father George K. Tweddel Sr. was a 1st Lt. in the US Army that served in World War I. And guess what his specialty was? Yep, he was a physician with the medical corps. Tweddel Jr.'s wife was an Army nurse in World War II. I believe they met at Paterson General Hospital when she worked in the ER and after their marriage she worked as a nurse in his office. She passed away in 2006. Children? Yes, he did have children. He had a son of the same name (George K. Tweddel III). And guess what? Yes, he is a practicing medical doctor. Hope that helps! Angeline, or nina as we called her, was a family member, and she was always giving me these old military stuff. I need to ask how did you get all of that?
