abd1943 Posted August 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2009 I recently acquired a 1918 dated mess fork (Manufacturer: "CPC") that has rust/corrosion on several locations. The metal is rather shiny in the non-corroded areas and from my (limited) understanding of WW1 mess forks/spoons, the material is tin plated steel (please correct me if I'm wrong). First, should I even attempt to clean off some of the rust/corrosion? Second, if I should, what are the best methods for doing so? I read that lemon juice is OK for removing light rust, but I have not read anything about using it (or another acidic material) on tin plating. Any help would be much appreciated. LtRGFRANK Posted August 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2009 I just bought 6 spoons the same way. I used "RUSTY DUCK" gun cleaner and preservative with very fine steel wool and they cleaned right up. Robert
