.30-06 Cloth Machine Gun Belt

Hey guys, I got this item in a lot and didnt think much of it, it looked like a strap to me!...upon closer examination, it appears to be a ammo feeder belt of some kind?....I dont know about this stuff!! Im a helmet guy!!. :unsure:. ..it looks like someone or a surplus shop converted it to a strap.....so any help or info would be greatly appreciated!!....thanks....mike

good idea!...thanks.......just googled it and it just gives some vague info on a 1936 dated patent for a cartridge belt for machine guns......I was hoping someone might have more info..like for what machine gun was it for?....what caliber etc. :think: ..very interesting item......mike

It is a fabric belt for the .30 caliber M1919-series machine guns.

 

I have seen these MG belts made into all sorts of straps & belts, and even used as webbing to support the padding on the seat of a chair.

 

This stuff was available by the truckload for very cheap after the war, and their uses by enterprising sellers was limited only by their imaginations.
