U.S. Fourteenth Army is a fictitious field army developed as a part of Operation Quicksilver and as a part of the fictitious First U.S. Army Group, being led by George S. Patton, Jr..

What follows is a list of the fictitious units that "existed" within Fourteenth Army. Please note that the various formations changed as the operation continued in order to mislead Axis intelligence. At least one fictitious armored division was included within Fourteenth Army.

*Note: An 11th Division formation, designated the 11th Airborne Division, did exist. The 14th Infantry Division and 17th Airborne Division were both authorized units that hadn't yet been raised. The 17th entered active service, whereas 14th wasn't raised until war's end and was soon after deactivated. Also, the 108th was activated after the war's conclusion in 1946 as the 108th Airborne Division.

Basic Rifleman

Can I ask a silly question? Why if this was a fictitious unit were there WWII patches made? I've been looking for an answer for a while to no avail...

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Maybe this will help. The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops was a deception unit that simulated fictitious units to fool the enemy.  This link might give you an explanation.  The that link doesn’t work or search for "the ghost army", or "23rd Headquarters Special Troops".  It’s a pretty interesting story.
