Blair217 Posted July 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2009 I have recently picked up some books and paper items that have that musty and moldy smell characteristic of items stored in basements.Any way to remove or moderate it?
hawkdriver Posted July 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2009 Open them up and air them out. Sunshine will help remove the smell, but if the paper is old, it could ruin it. I would open them up and run a fan over them for awhile. You will never get the smell completely out, but it will reduce it a little.

BEAST Posted July 31, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2009 Here is another way that has worked for me. Wad up some newspaper and put into a brown paper bag, place the book on top of the newspaper and fold the paper bag shut. Wait a couple of days and the smell will be abated. If it is a strong smell, put some dry coffee grounds into the bag before sealing it.
