In those years, there were still decent surplus stores out here which had racks full of '43-'51s for about $12.00, but not minties like you're talkin' about. I bought a mint '41, size 40L, for a hundred bucks in 1990; it seemed awful cheap even back then, but the guy wasn't into it for a whole lot, and he was a basic good guy. I've got a trio of unissued '43s, all in big sizes, but they didn't have tags stapled all over them like that. It's interesting to me that the cutter tags on W.W.II Army stuff has the size and some other numbers, whereas Marine Corps tags are always dated. Thanks for posting that screamer! 'Flage Guy Posted February 7, 2016 Share #78 Posted February 7, 2016 LOL- Aw, that's OK (took a little bit to get that "spotted and pretty" ); got enough Jackets/Coats/Parkas around here to last a lifetime. Actually, the only 'flage I have going out the door is a Jump Smock I just upgraded (below, at left- the new one at right). It came from a camo collector in Japan; I used to see a Japanese guy at the old Great Western Show buying 'flage stuff left and right, and I'm suspecting it's the same guy. What puzzles me is the extra row of buttons (5 on the right side and 4 on the left side, 2 in the collar) on the inside. Apparently they were meant to hold a liner of some sort. The jacket is 1943 dated, it only has the quartermaster tag in the lower right side pocket. There are no additional tags. On inspection I found a lone cutter tag in the left sleeve. Am I correct in assuming that those extra buttons were added post war? All the buttons are brown coloured. I've seen some M43's in this thread that also had these extra buttons. Thanks Your Jacket will be one worn in the early-sh mid-sh 60s, Of note is the Black on White stamped chest tapes, the one on the left simply stamped U S A F, this was just before the Air Force adopted the now familiar White on Blue U.S. AIR FORCE and NAME tapes. Here's an example of these type tapes being worn in this period, a 1964 photo of a Air Force Paratrooper, a Combat Controller out west somewhere after making a jump.
