rrobertscv Posted April 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2007 Can someone please tell me about this bayo, what era and value? As always thanks for the help.
SARGE Posted April 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2007 Robert, Your bayonet is a Czech Vz.24 for the Czech Mauser. The Circle/Z mark on the blade was often used for export models. The CSZ on the scabbard is a Czech marking as is the lion. The date (which I cannot read) is the last two digits on the scabbard frog marking, i.e. 1936 or 1946, etc. The value is around $25 - $35 on ebay with these markings and this condition. SARGE Posted April 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2007 Thanks for the info, I found out that the last number is 38. You are welcome. Your particular bayonet was made in 1938 just prior to the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. The Germans used many of these bayonets during the war and they continued them in production (without the muzzle ring) until the war ended. The Czechs continued to make these bayonets after the war but the wartime and postwar ones have a blued or blackened finish. Many were also refurbished and re-issued by the Germans and their allies. Here is a wartime example to show the difference. No muzzle ring and a blued finish overall.
