TheMariner Posted September 19, 2016 Share #404 Posted September 19, 2016 DFC and Air Medals to Sargent Leo C. Hotis Im guessing you were the one who beat me out on the NY Conspicuous Service Cross belong to him the other day! If not it sold on ebay for about $80 bucks a few days ago! He survived the war though so finding these medals might be an uphill battle, even being a pow i believe most likely they were not named! It seems POW medals are 50/50 with naming! warguy Posted October 30, 2016 Share #412 Posted October 30, 2016 I am looking for the WWI medals belonging to Theodore "Ted" B. Anderson. He was in the 6th Marines and there should be a Victory medal, engraved Silver Star, engraved Purple Heart, named Marine Good Conduct, GdG with bronze star, and a WWII Bronze star. Trying to reunite this with a large grouping. Thanks

Roystone Posted November 22, 2016 Share #414 Posted November 22, 2016 I'm looking for US Navy Civil War medal # 1489 to James Hackett. It was sold by Adam Rohloff a couple of years back...I'd just love to know where it is, having done a lot of research on Hackett; he was quite a fellow. Do let me know if anyone knows where the medal resides now! cheers Roy

AAF_Collection Posted November 30, 2016 Share #423 Posted November 30, 2016 Engraved DFC w/OLC and PH w/OLC to 2LT James G Taylor AC. Taylor was Navigator on the B24 Tagalong of the 98th BG, KIA 1 Aug 43 on the Ploesti Raid Hi, If you are the buyer of the Air Medal recently sold on eBay I believe it actually belonged to a different Lt. James G. Taylor who was with the 461st BG, 15th Air Force, he was a POW. Incidentally I won the auction for this medal on eBay when it was initially listed, however the seller canceled the sale claiming he'd been contacted by the original owners Grandson who had made him a substantial offer, and the medal was then re-listed with a buy it now of twice the original selling price. Kadet Posted November 30, 2016 Share #424 Posted November 30, 2016 Yes, I made them an offer lower than their BIN price and it was accepted. In some ways the potential POW attribution is more interesting to me because he was a pilot and the medal would not be part of a broken KIA group, although it is a coincidence that the OL clusters on the medal match the 98th BG navigator. Some further digging is needed I guess...
Kadet Posted November 30, 2016 Share #425 Posted November 30, 2016 The POW Taylor was seems to have been assigned to the 461st on 10/31/44 and lost on 1/31/45. Unless he had served in another unit prior to the 461st, his crew were later war replacements and 5 Air Medals in the space of three months seems unlikely.
