nicolas75 Posted June 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2009 Hi all, I’m looking for information about the technician grade system during ww2 “ 1942. The grades of Technician in the third, fourth and fifth grades were added by War Department Circular No. 5, dated 8 January 1942. Change 1 to AR 600-35, dated 4 September 1942, added a letter "T" to the formerly prescribed chevrons for grades three, four and five. (information taken from http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/Rank_pag...isted_Ranks.htm ) “ Which kind of specialty could have a Sergeant assistant squad leader on a frontline rifle team in 1944 (not talking for the medical part of it) ? What’s your opinion for those specialties : bugler ? Post qm sergeant ? pay or (or light adminsitratives affair) clerk ? quartermaster sergeants ? translator ? CIC ? Or maybe such Technician were so few in frontline that it’s un-significant Thanks
Lee Ragan Posted June 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2009 Those Technicians had such jobs as communications, adminstrative and all kinds of technical specialities and of course the medical guys. Such jobs as interpreters, radiomen and clerks would be examples of soldiers in these ranks that would serve in ground units. Men that had special training over and above the basic rifleman duties. Maybe someone else can jump in here and elaborate on this in more detail.
Bluehawk Posted June 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2009 When my Dad was a T/5, he was a light truck driver in Manhattan District Armed Service Forces. JimmCapp Posted July 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2009 Yea, basically they are the same as specialist ranks, at that pay grade but not in a direct command position. You would have seen Tech ranks in both frontline and support roles.
