Hey gang,

I just bought about a hundred or so Navy UIM's and they are all different.

I was wondering if there is an online source to help ID all these. Is there a glossary of UIM terms?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Hi Pack Rat I too have the same ID problems and can find zero reference sources for these . Somewhere there is a 'USN dictionary of acronyms' that will translate SOME but not all eg FASOTRAGRUPAC fleet aviation safety operational training group pacific. I have worked on my collection for the last 25-30 years and am still stumped on many. IF you have any to sell/trade please let me know their spellout. regards paulray2

I'm in the process of labeling nearly 300 of these critters and have identified many if not most of them. List some of those you need identified on this thread & we will see what we can do. I haven't found any comprehensive listing but found may identifications just by doing an internet search. That's not going to ID all of them. but it's a start.

I have discovered that after you work with these awhile, you can start to figure out what they mean in some cases. Still, there are some that defy all attemps to identify.

Hey Lee,

Thanks for help.

Here are the ones I couldn't find or have found conflicting info on:

I put them in alphabetical order to help speed along a search.

Again, thank you in advance for any help,

PS- The Navy sure loves the serve alphabet soup.

HELANTISUBRONLIGHT 41

This is Helicopter Anti-submarine Light 41 or HSL-41 for short. It is a training command for pilots for the SH-60B helicopter stationed in North Island california. I was assigned for training there in 1991. They do the same thing as HSL-40 does on the east coast in Florida.

This was our SH-60B during Iraqi Freedom in the NAG. 444 is assigned to HSL-44 out here in Florida.

HI PR sorry I haven't answered you earlier. I do have a number of pre 64 traders and am looking for my list. Was heavy into this in the 70-80s but no takers . As you go thru your ID problems (as I did) there is some sanity to the system e.g. COM usually means COMMANDER... FLT =FLEET so FLTCOM= Fleetcommander , DES = destroyer RON =squadron so DESRON =destroyer squadron SUBRON =submarine squadron , etc . Please keep in touch paulray2
