Grouping of a local guy, Glen Lewis from the 29th Inf. Division. His uniform is gone but he salvaged his insignia and ribbons. The gem of the group is the CZ 27 pistol and holster he brought back with the capture paper lisiting the serial number on the paper that matches that of the pistol. Hope you enjoy.

Most excellent display especially since this soldier was in the 29th Division which was comprised of many Virginians including a large number from the Bedford, Virginia area. The 29th was in the first wave on D-Day and the Bedford, Virginia soldiers suffered 70%+ casualties. As you know Bedford, Virginia, is the site of the D-Day Memorial. The last surviving Bedford, Virginia 29th Division D-Day soldier died about 3 weeks ago at the age of approximately 90. The Richmond, Virginia Times Dispatch had a nice tribute article about him a few days after he passed. He received a special honor guard and memorial service at the D-Day memorial before his burial. The last of the "Bedford Boys" was gone.

Kyle, very cool. It is rare when you have the capture papers and the actual item. Another neat group for your collection. Mark

Thank you for all the positive comments. The pistol is Chech, with Nazi proofs. I am not sure if it was made before the war and 'acquired' or made under new contract during the war.

GIKyle,

In response to whether or not your pistol was made prior to the war, or manufactured for the

Germans during the war....yes, it was made for the Germans while Chechoslavakia was occupied.

Hope this helps.

It depends. If it has the code "fnh" on the slide or Bohmische Waffenfabrik im Prag on the backstrap, it was made during the German occupation.

I should note here, some additional information.....if there is ever a "Made in Czechoslavakia"

on the left side of the frame, it was manufactured after the war.
