67Rally Posted September 12, 2016 Share #184 Posted September 12, 2016 I just scored this copy of Richard Newcombe's book on the August 1942 battle of Savo Island. The signature inside the book is what led me to purchase it. The commanding officer of the USS Vincennes (CA-44), Frederick Lois Riefkohl, Rear Admiral (retired) who was also a Navy Cross recipient. I collect just about anything relating to the ships bearing the name and this one a treasure for my collection. I can't wait to have it in hand (I will take better photos of the signature when I have it next week).

JasonT Posted August 5, 2018 Share #194 Posted August 5, 2018 What makes it more than just a regular signed copy was that it was given to a John Stambaugh, who also served alongside the author in the 100th division. Included throughout the book are Stambaughs own notes and comments regarding some of the events described in the book, such as the following;
