I ask you this??????? owen Hi owen, very interesting pattern! The colours looking absolutely nice almost strange I never saw one like this before!? Its a good question if the first pattern was looking so bright in mint condition I would be confused about that especially before I spent this serious money MF

vintageproductions Posted September 30, 2008 Share #707 Posted September 30, 2008 This is a incredible set. Jason told me that it came from a SF vet who did a tour in 1964, when he got these. As far as I am concerned, the only thing that could make this set better is a issue stamp in them. For as rare as this suit is, I don't think his price is out of line. It is expensive, but this type of tiger stripe never hits the market.
kammo-man Posted September 30, 2008 Share #708 Posted September 30, 2008 You are right , Bob , a nice fat juicy quartermasters stamp would make it for me also 59 06 something like that or even .... 60 01 that would be the icing on the cake . owen
Copran Posted September 30, 2008 Share #709 Posted September 30, 2008 7500 usd for the set, quite a big money, especially during these days when lot of people lost money with financial bakruptcy. I think it s not a VNMC issued but rather a Tailor copy, you can spot the printing roll transistion here that doesn't exist in the VNMC issued uniform. How ever, it s still an interesting set, I start right now eating pasta every day so hopefully I would buy it next year 's Chrismast . This is a incredible set. kammo-man Posted September 30, 2008 Share #710 Posted September 30, 2008 Cop That looks like a massive printing flaw to me . The pattern matches up but the rollers dont . This can happen . I am just drinking water so that I can get this suit by the end of October . As helmet collectors say "top shelf' owen
Copran Posted September 30, 2008 Share #711 Posted September 30, 2008 Hahaha, Owen, if eating costs you 7500usd / month, what did you do to fit the A-L tiger suits ... The thing that makes me think this is a Tailor printed suit is the ARVN used mostly poplin like material for the camo issued uniforms at the beginning of the war (VNMC Tiger, Pink, probably a Monster pattern too), so heavy weight is probably made by local tailor. But it s just my opinion. Cop That looks like a massive printing flaw to me . The pattern matches up but the rollers dont . This can happen . kammo-man Posted September 30, 2008 Share #712 Posted September 30, 2008 Cop My first thoughts when I heard about this set was "is it made from the pinks poplin'? When Jason said no I was like "oh no ' That kinda threw me for a second . My next thought was . 'maybee it is in the same family as the custom set worn in the LRRP film clip" But that was a No . Over the weekend I went to my friends house who owns a 1959 dated tiger shirt in the Algers cut . This shirt is fantastic and he has owned it for many years . I had nice shots from Jason and the set matched up. The Algers shirt is mid weight fabric and is quite dence , from the close up shots from Jason the fabric looks the same to me . It is NOT the silky poplin but a more rougher cotton . The set may have been made from left over material as there are no QM stamps but the pattern is just crude enough if you know what I mean .? I do love to eat lots of food by the way but not $7500 worth in a month , but I looked at my collection this weekend just to see if there was anything that could say goodbye . It is tough as I am happy with everything at the moment . But who knows .???? owen
Andrei Posted September 30, 2008 Author Share #713 Posted September 30, 2008 Hey O ! What do you call an "Algers" cut ? French TTA47 Allegée shirt ?
kammo-man Posted September 30, 2008 Share #714 Posted September 30, 2008 My French Friends ..... Sorry I dont know the correct term for the shirt . It is the pointy collar and the hidden pockets with the pocket flaps showing . you always see it in INDO with infantry wearing it . o
Andrei Posted September 30, 2008 Author Share #715 Posted September 30, 2008 Yes, it is. The correct name is Veste Allégée Modèle TTA47. But IMHO the mle 47 light version showed up only in 1951 or 1952 with the early ones without the reinforced shoulders. The first camo versions had the camo pattern TAP47/51, for shirts without reinforced shoulders. Then TAP47/52 camo pattern was used. I have only seen shirts with the reinforced shoulders in 47/52 but I am sure that we can find the 47/52 on early shirts as well. I once saw an Allégée shirt with the shoulders in 47/51 and the rest in 47/52 but the guy wanted an insane price for it.
kammo-man Posted September 30, 2008 Share #716 Posted September 30, 2008 A I have always loved that uniform , a true classic that went to war and kicked some Butt. I have some pieces but wow, it must have been hell to wear as it is so heavy!!!! Is there a light weight version ? Thanks for the quick breakdown on it , I know I have a MM issue on it somewhere , they did a great Algers issue showing the guys in cammo on the front cover . Is that the one , I wouder ? How hard is the rare cuts to find ? Am I answering my own question ? owen

kammo-man Posted October 3, 2008 Share #722 Posted October 3, 2008 Here is some custom made Tigerstripe trousers . I put these in the very earily war period . As you notice there is different styles mixed in the manufacture . There is the VNMC infulence and the army thigh pockets present . I have only ever seen this pattern used in Flight suits and garment bags . Has anyone got the shirt to match these trousers ? owen
