Some US tobacco companies helped bolster Homefront moral by printing patriotic messages and/or slogans on their cigarette packs. My favorite is the 1944 Old Gold “Freedom” soft pack. There is an interesting story of how one of these special packs was used by a POW in Stalag 17-B. If interested, read it here:

Pall Mall was another popular brand that did something similar using a large “V” for victory. Raleigh Cigarettes featured “Buy War Bonds” while Wings Cigarettes had “Keep’em Flying” printed on the front of the pack.

Best wishes, Jim

Hi Jim, this is the one brand of cigarette that escaped me for my collection of WWII cigarettes packets.

I did manage however to get a joke wind up mechanical version that I suppose caused some laughter in the war.

Once wound up and placed on a table it moves across the surface.

Cheers ( Lewis )
