NebrPatch Posted May 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2009 I know some of you have been to the website: http://www.higginsmemorial.com/Default.asp for information on the Higgins boat and its creator, Andrew Jackson Higgins. Higgins was born here in Columbus, NE, and a small portion of Pawnee Park is dedicated to Higgins and his boat. Here are some photos of the area. The first photo is an overall view. One soldier is carrying an M1 while the other has an M60 because the designers of the memorial wanted to remember all of the wars where the Higgins boat was used. The twisted steel structure in the rear (middle) is made from World Trade Center steel, topped with a bronze eagle.
