Constabulary Posted May 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 21, 2009 I just came across this M81 Carrying Case and I don´t know what it is for. It´s made of aluminium and has M-1910 wire hook attached.
RTS Posted May 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2009 Constabulatory, I once saw a set of AN/PVS-5 NODs in a very similar case if that helps.
Constabulary Posted May 21, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted May 21, 2009 Constabulatory, I once saw a set of AN/PVS-5 NODs in a very similar case if that helps. This case is quite small the Nightvisoon will not fit in it...
Brian Keith Posted May 21, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2009 It is for a mortar sight, can't tell the M# but it would fit the 81 and 60mm mortars. I would guess that box probably dates from the 70's-80's. BKW
Johan Willaert Posted May 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2009 As said it's for the M4 Mortar Sight and it replaced the leather cases of the WW2 era

hawkdriver Posted May 22, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 22, 2009 The PVS-5 cases are made of plastic and don't have a wire hangar.
RTS Posted May 22, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 22, 2009 The PVS-5 cases are made of plastic and don't have a wire hangar. Hawkdriver, it may have been a foreign container or an uncommon item but you probably have had a lot more experience with the PVS-5 than I have. Thanks for setting me straight
VolunteerArmoury Posted May 24, 2009 Share #9 Posted May 24, 2009 I think that's the one we still use those with the M64A1 Sight Unit. It's been a while since I've been on a tube since I've been a TRADOC warrior too long but when I go to MLC next year I'll know again.
oldsalt89 Posted August 16, 2015 Share #10 Posted August 16, 2015 Its for the post war m4 mortar site. The m64a1 site box was much larger and still in use today with the m252 mortar system. I was a mortar man for 17 years. The m4 site was used up into vietnam hard to believe. But its in some manuals i have dated 71. The m64a1 and the m53 site will not fit in the box much to small, nore will any type of NVG's used today.(not even the 14's). But is a durable little box. I have the Leather WWII one and the Metal box. When i do reenactments with the 81mm i use it because its more durable. Collector value with out sling strap, $20.00 with strap about $35.00. High angle hell! Old salt
