Hello, GLCM stands for ground launched cruise missile. I think its USAF, not sure of the units that wore it.

Hello, I looked up the units for you. This tab was worn by the following units.

38th Tactical Missile Wing

303rd TMW

485th TMW

486th TMW

487th TMW

501st TMW

868th TMW

The GLCM was operational from 1983-1991 and all the units with the exception of the 868th were deployed in Europe.

An interesting piece of information on which units wore this tab and when. Thank you for taking the time to research the information. Three additional questions if you or another forum member can answer them.

(1) How was the tab worn (e.g., over the wing patch or another)?

(2) Was there any special qualifications to get the tab or was it just an add-on to the unit patch to recognize it's mission?

(3) There is another version of this tab but it has a star on it. Does any information exist was to the tab with or without the star?

Thank you,

Mike

The GLCM tab was a qualification badge awarded to personnel who completed the Ground Launch Cruise Missile Dispersal Instructors course and assigned to the 868th Tactical Missile Training Squadron at Davis Monthan AFB.

The tab was worn sewed to the left shoulder sleeve. Senior instructors had 2 stars, one each, on either side of the word GLCM. The tab would be worn below other tabs such as the RANGER qualification tab, but above other tabs such as the Desert Rat tab.

The tab had a background of OD green with black lettering and a black border. A color variant was blue with yellow border and lettering. A desert color combination is also known to exist.
