K,  thank you for your generous assistance and info.  Huge help.

Assume we have no way of knowing what nationality those POWs were?

My two tags are from Americans. I would guess yours probably is too.

Here is a  case where half a tag is better than none. Tag to a P-47 pilot shot down 9/26/44 over Italy. He was held in STALAG LUFT 1.

Thanks again; sorry to keep on, but how did you verify those two tags were American POWs?

I did not know I was getting this tag until the POW Diary I bought on EBay arrived in the mail. It wasn’t described. when I received the diary. The tag was stuck inside.

This is Stalag XIIA tag ( a transit camp) from a POW held in Stalag IIA captured in Sept 1944 in France. He served with the 179th Inf, 45th Division.

Just curious if there is any type of data base or research site anyone knows of to research an unidentified POW dog tag? This tag was mixed in with a larger of group of primarily 28th Infantry Division patches and officer insignia but no name or ID of any type to even start my search. It is from Stalag XII A, Nr, 11570

There is a very high probability that he was an Officer in Oflag 64.

Thank you KASTAUFFER. I am thinking this GI was an infantry officer with the 28th Infantry Division and a Major at some point either during or after the war but that is all I have to go on.

Stalag Luft III dogtag issued to a 91st BG pilot captured June 21, 1944. Matching number on a piece of his mail.
