otter42 Posted June 2 #1 Posted June 2 I didn't see the hallmark and sterling stamp on these with my naked eye. Seller had to point it out to me. They look parkerized. Any idea on why this finish and era of the wings? I'm guessing their from late 50's to 70s. Thanks Ken
eagle mtn Posted June 3 #2 Posted June 3 To be honest, it looks like corrosion to me or maybe a bad recast? Very unusual to my eye
Uniforms of the Day Posted June 4 #3 Posted June 4 The posts are imperfectly placed too. Pretty odd for the maker.
otter42 Posted June 4 Author #4 Posted June 4 Thanks guys for the comments. Posts may be the angle of camera, I post better ones if that's the case.
Tonomachi Posted Sunday at 04:34 AM #5 Posted Sunday at 04:34 AM I agree with eagle mtn that this is some sort of surface corrosion. I believe GEMSCO made a whole bunch of these wings in the 1950s and 1960s as I've seen a lot of them over the years. You see these in pin back and clutch back with the same hollowing of the chute and hallmark. I have a picture of one in senior level so they probably made one in Master level. I've seen them in the regular antique silver finish and a shiny silver finish that might be nickle plating or something similar. I have a picture of one that is solid back (no hollowing) and clutch back with the same exact hallmark but placed near the upper center of the chute. In addition the clutch back pins are not soldered or lined up evenly like this example.
blitz67 Posted Sunday at 08:10 PM #7 Posted Sunday at 08:10 PM Its corrosion, silver turns black instead of red (rust) or green verdigris (brass)
