ashmc210 Posted May 12 #1 Posted May 12 Ring found at an antique store. Appears to be a cerillos turquoise stone (links to Navajo, according to my web searches) but I have no clue if the EGA emblem is authentic or when it was made. Bought it as a gift for my retired Marine, and would love to have more historical info on it (if I can find it!) Also if anyone can give any context on the ring as a whole, that would be amazing. Thank you in advance!
normaninvasion Posted May 12 #2 Posted May 12 Just a guess, looks to be a lapel pin or sweetheart ega that has been polished down over the years. Would be interesting to see if ring has Navajo Hallmark.
easterneagle87 Posted May 13 #4 Posted May 13 Almost in the same style , like the large bubble glass oval WW1 pictures you see of the time.
aznation Posted May 13 #5 Posted May 13 If I had to guess I'd say the ring is possibly from the WWI time period and this type of dark green turquoise looks to me like green Cerrillos turquoise. Green Cerrillos turquoise comes from the Cerrillos Hills Mining District, located in north-central New Mexico, USA. This prehistoric mining area sits in Santa Fe County, approximately 10 to 20 miles southwest of Santa Fe and north of Albuquerque. The stamped silver work is indicative of the Navajo Indians.
Brig Posted May 24 #6 Posted May 24 Emblem I believe is WWII production, it is fairly common to find unfinished small emblems of the era and they were commonly applied to all manner of things. My guess is someone affixed one to a ring they particularly liked, or a custom piece of jewelry. For sure, it was not a mass-produced piece and it was well-worn and well-loved.
