hink441 Posted May 11 #1 Posted May 11 Picked up this Norfolk Naval Shipyard hard hat today. Shop 72 Leadingman Rigger. MSA made type K helmet. Really like the paint job on this one.
aznation Posted May 12 #4 Posted May 12 I'm pretty certain that I have the correct guy for the "H Atkins" helmet and if those helmets were obtained together I'm pretty sure both belonged to this person. Ancestry - Harold Atkins .pdf Passport Application - Harold Atkins.pdf Possible WWII US Navy Muster Roll - Harold Atkins.pdf US Census Records - Harold Atkins.pdf WWI US Army Transport Record - Harold Atkins US Navy.pdf

By the way, that's a really cool looking helmet! And now you have the story of the man who wore it which makes it even better. I love it. Take care...Matt
Scarecrow Posted May 12 #8 Posted May 12 Hi Hink 441, Here is a photo of one in my collection from Rhode Island's Providence Shipyard. The shipyard, in less than two years, built 63 ships for the war effort. The shipyard built Liberty, Frigate and Combat Cargo ships. I don't have a photo of the liner but it is exactly the same as yours but does not have a chin strap.
