ardennes44 Posted May 5 #1 Posted May 5 Hello folks needs your help on that marking , Winchester Barel proof marking on handguard and o+ have your ever seen I can find it on books … that one came from my area and it is untouched thanks for help :-)
DogDoc Posted May 6 #3 Posted May 6 I hope I am wrong and someone may enlighten us but I am suspicious of it. I can't find and evidence that anyone other than Winchester made handguards for Winchesters and their handguards are all W stamped. It will be interesting if it is bull nose. Early Winchester stuff used the PW stamp more. Good luck, Jay
everforward Posted May 6 #4 Posted May 6 To my eye (admittedly it's been a while), those look like Winchester proof marks.
usmcdoc67 Posted Thursday at 01:18 AM #5 Posted Thursday at 01:18 AM This one has got me. I've checked all of the Winchester Carbine Club newsletters and couldn't find anything about those markings. Also, went through Ruth's and other reference material.......nothing. Kinda thinking it's bogus. If you have access to the Carbine Club web site, post it there. Marty, Dan or others might shed some light on it.
ardennes44 Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM Author #6 Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM If found nothing too , the usm1 was left in Belgium in sept 44 , the owner of it , have to clean some parts because of the grease and dust , after the removal of the dry grease he discovered the markings , he owns a lot of usm1 but never seen that before . So for sure it was make by someone in the Winchester factory during the war .
DogDoc Posted Thursday at 01:37 PM #7 Posted Thursday at 01:37 PM Can you get a picture of the front taken from the side? Do you know any details about the rifle? If this is a real piece, it would be nice to document.
