Early American Naval Dirk (Federal Period) with Gold Wire Knots--has anyone seen knots on a Naval Dirk before?

Hello.  I purchased this excellent early American dirk recently.  It has gold wire knots/tassels attached to the scabbard rings still.  Has anyone here run across these knots on an early American dirk before?
