otter42 Posted May 5 #13 Posted May 5 I still can't believe they showed Cross Of Iron on the kibbutz I lived on in Israel in 1979? There was a Holocaust survivor living there with her arm tattooed. I'm sure she didn't go see it.

YourLocalHistoryGuy Posted May 5 Author #20 Posted May 5 Did Hollywood make any good banana war films.
jumpship Posted May 5 #21 Posted May 5 Gardens of Stone (1987) mediocre reviews, but worth watching. Taking Chance (2009); some of the acting is stilted, but it is effective in portaying the return of a real KIA (Iraq) Marine to his final resting place. It also shows the guilt felt by some service personnel who were not in the fight. Restrepo (2010) -documentary on Afganistan, so not Hollywood per se; but very real portrayal of the small unit US Army fights in isolated places in that war- warts and all.
stbryson Posted May 6 #22 Posted May 6 The Sand Pebbles (1966) Battle of Britain (1969) Destination Tokyo (1943) Battleground (1949)
aznation Posted May 6 #23 Posted May 6 Hello.... 1970 - Patton Patton grossed $61.7 million against a budget of $12 million. It won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Scott also won the Best Actor for his performance, though he declined the award. The opening monologue, delivered by Scott as General Patton with an enormous American flag behind him, remains an iconic and often quoted image in film. In 2003, Patton was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". The Academy Film Archive also preserved Patton in 2003.
