Jump wing Posted May 1 #1 Posted May 1 This wing was recently sold on eBay. The auction closed at $227 with 5 different bidders. The seller's description: WW2/II US Army CHAPLIN paratrooper jump wings BRITISH made w/COMBAT JUMP STAR. Front does not look British made. Back has a small mark - looks like a flower. Reversed hinge and catch. This is clearly a fake, isn't it, or am I missing something?
Persian Gulf Command Posted May 1 #2 Posted May 1 I posted this in the Hallmark Section. It received over 400 views, but no one responded. Super Rare or an outright Fraud I suspect!
Jump wing Posted May 1 Author #3 Posted May 1 Thanks Persian Gulf Command. I am glad that I am not the only one who questions this.
Treeman434 Posted May 1 #4 Posted May 1 If I remember right the seller also had a variety of wings with different religious symbols. I'm no expert on wings but these are definitely strange…
M-1Helmet.com Posted May 1 #5 Posted May 1 How many paratrooper Chaplains were there during WWII and how many of these jump wings are for sale these days? They are extremely rare so what are the odds Chaplain jump wings are in fact original??
manayunkman Posted May 1 #6 Posted May 1 I have a grouping to a chaplain who served in the airborne during WWII. He was not jump qualified.
pfrost Posted May 2 #8 Posted May 2 I've always wondered about the "chaplain/rabbi" versions of jump wings--whether or not they actually existed. Considering a jump wing was awarded for the successful completion of jump qualification and the total independence of the branch of service (religion) insignia. A chaplain would already have his insignia--what would be the purpose of slapping a cross on a jump wing? Would they even care, it's not like they weren't already serving a much higher calling and felt the need to drag even more attention to themselves.. It just seems to me that someone is trying way too hard.... a jump wing, a chaplain's cross, a combat jump star all on an English-made wing with a (more than likely) fantasy hallmark. Someone got into the unicorn juice.... The only thing missing is some sort of hinkey engraving on the back I may be wrong, but it seems that this is one of those things that only collectors would dream up.
