WWIIBuff1945 Posted April 29 #1 Posted April 29 I recently picked up this WWII lineman's set. I'm not sure how compete it is as I believe they had special gloves and weren't included.
robinb Posted April 29 #2 Posted April 29 What are the long wooden poles? I have a few and have not been able to ID them.
otter42 Posted April 29 #3 Posted April 29 Looks like a type of hot stick for working the lines hot or giving the lineman clearance from live wires. Closing in fuses, changing out hardware without turning the power off.
sgtpeter Posted April 29 #4 Posted April 29 Buff, that's a great find. You have most of the hard stuff to find. Here's the contents for various Lineman TE. The bag BG-44 was used for other TE kits as well. TE-21 (Lineman): TL-13 - 6 in side cutting pliers TL-144 climber spike gauge LC-1 Ax (same as the entrenching hatchet) LC-5 climber (there are various climbers with different size spikes for trees vs poles) LC-10 leather gloves LC-23 lineman belt LC-24 twisting pliers LC-25 lineman wrench LC-29 rubber gloves TL-106 screwdriver TE-23 (Lineman Assistant) LC-1 Ax LC-10 Leather Gloves LC-23 lineman belt LC-25 lineman wrench TL-106 screwdriver TE-27 Tool Equipment for construction of lines BG-44 Wrench Monkey 12 in TL-39 hammer Ruler 4 ft Mallet carpenter Tape measure cloth 50 ft Draw knife folding 10 in blade Hacksaw frame + blade 10 in, 18 tpi Brace ratchet 12 in BG-47 tool roll Flat file bastard, 10 in Bit, ear 11/16 x 14 in Bit, heelbanger 3/8 x 18 in Oilstone combo fine and coarse Chisel wood Peter
sgtpeter Posted April 29 #5 Posted April 29 The poles look similar to those that came with my 1950 arctic tent.
WWIIBuff1945 Posted April 29 Author #6 Posted April 29 Thanks for the awesome info guys! I was told the poles are some sort of antenna. I haven't tried to research them yet.
aznation Posted April 29 #8 Posted April 29 That's a pretty impressive set of lineman's items you have their Keith. How did you happen upon all that, if you don't mind me asking?
WWIIBuff1945 Posted April 29 Author #9 Posted April 29 Matt - Facebook marketplace is where I found the set. The seller had reduced the price by $200 so I decided to buy it although I really don't have the room around the house to store it! Thanks JT. So they are tent poles.... interesting.

I've seen more and more people on the forum buying from FB Marketplace. I've not looked nor purchased anything from there yet. Perhaps I should start looking. I stopped using eBay years ago when they raised all their fees and started taking out state taxes. I really haven't seen anyone on here say they purchased something off Instagram or another site like that. By the way, if you need a place to store it just let me know. I have room...Take care buddy.
WWIIBuff1945 Posted April 29 Author #11 Posted April 29 Thanks Matt. There are WWII FB groups where you can sell all kinds of stuff.Yes, I definitely don't like the ebay taxes also. They have been collecting those taxes on Gunbroker and that really adds to the total! Thanks for the storage offer. The best I can do for now is put you in the will for the set! LOL. I sent you a PM with more info on the set and how its going to be used in the WWII war trophy book.
j. t. thompson Posted April 29 #12 Posted April 29 Hello WWIIBuff1945, I'm leaning towards tent poles simply because I found that contract listing. Wish I could be more positive.
The Rooster Posted April 29 #13 Posted April 29 That is quite a nice pickup! Congratulations! I read that the US Armed forces still use field phones and wire. Makes sense!

I would def go with antenna pole. The cords are support ropes to hold it up right. If you were in an open area you put up two poles and string commo wire horizontally at the top between the two poles. If you had a tall tree nearby you could use 1 pole for the same effect. The height of a field expedient antenna and length of wire would increase the range of a radio set over the short whip like antenna.. Youd string the wire through the Gromet on the top pole section. I know a little about this stuff as I was Signal Corps before I was Infantry. The pole or poles are for if, you have nothing else to elevate the wire with.
robinb Posted April 30 #15 Posted April 30 Here are my poles. 4' long not counting the thinner section.
