Interesting 8th AF PH engraving "slip of the hand"?

I have this, what appears to be a period hand engraved PH to an 8th AF aircrew member.

I put it under a USB microscope and saw this "swish" comin out from the "u" in Paul

almost looks like a mistake that was filled in with the gold lacquer or finish they used to conceal the defect?

 

I never noticed it until I put it under a loupe, what do you folks think?

Yes, 100% a slip of the hand. Beautifull engraved and a very nice correction. It tells you that the engraving was done by a person and not a machine.
