phfr Posted April 23 #1 Posted April 23 Does anyone know what these are called other than the title of this post? I haven't found much information pertaining to these online and I've posted them on several sites with no leads. This example is marked: ORD 7 SPARE PARTS CARBINE M1 or M2 1005-621-???? Carbine 6 EA ????-???-???? CAP 6 EA ????-???-???? BRUSH 1 EA ????-???-???? GREASE 1 EA PROD BY AN A-1A 3/60 The foil lined bag is also marked: MIL-B-131C CLASS 1 PLASTIC FILM CO. PLASTIN P35A 3 1958 LOT NO.617
M1Garandy Posted April 24 #2 Posted April 24 I don't have an answer, but I believe this "1005-621-???? Carbine 6 EA" actually states "1005-621-???? MAGAZINE 6 EA". You ask this question over on the CMP forum?
everythingmiliary Posted April 24 #3 Posted April 24 From what I've researched and been able to tell, this item is what you stated, an unopened M1 Carbine spare parts kit. It appears to contain caps, a brush, grease, and possibly magazines (unsure but its listed above "cap" like M1Garandy claims). My best guess is it also doubles as a cleaning kit for the Carbine and magazines. I believe this would've been issued to the soldier when he was issued their M1 Carbine. Hope this helped, Hayden
phfr Posted April 24 Author #4 Posted April 24 M1Garandy, you are correct. It does say magazines so there are 6 magazines and 6 dust caps. I have not posted on the CMP forum yet. Unfortunately, this one is unopened, and I'd hate to open it up.
Matt_X Posted April 30 #5 Posted April 30 for Carbine stuff go to the Carbine Club ORD 7 is the nomenclature adopted for the part of the Supply Catalog related to Organizational Spare Parts and Equipment. In other words who should get what items and how many they should get. You have a kit for the user assigned the carbine. From Ordnance's care and repair perspective, this is First Echelon personel. A slightly earlier kit shown here https://www.uscarbinecal30.com/Forum/m1-carbine-accessory-packs-1954-dated_topic5146.html a similar one here https://www.uscarbinecal30.com/Forum/spare-parts-for-m1-carbine-m1a1_topic5292_post41250.html#41250 and here with additional discussion https://www.uscarbinecal30.com/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7229&PID=61272&title=6-magazines-in-canvas#61272 Since then a couple of us have been aquiring B-28 or copies to try to put together a chronology of changes.
Matt_X Posted May 3 #7 Posted May 3 Sure! Yours may add to the knowledge base. The information red seems to be about the packaging material and method. As you probably have read in the linked thread, there is a debate whether AN represents a location or an organization.
