Hi everyone, I just bought a set of officer uniforms that may be from the Korean War. I tried searching online but couldn't find the person's name. Can anyone help me?

Very hard without the full first name rather then just the initial, did check the O  register for RA Os of 1955, but he's not in it indicating he's a Reserve Commission, and the online site that has these registers didn't make available the volumes that list Reserve Components.

Dear Patches,

Your answer quoted above is extremely helpful and interesting. Is there a posted thread anywhere on this forum which you can link to here explaining your sources and methods for how to conduct the research you are describing in your post? Or if not, could you possibly post them here with links?

To expand on that, is there a way to decipher and research soldier's serial numbers on uniforms even if without names and use those?  I think I have some WWII and later period uniforms with only numbers (with letter prefixes?) visible.

If not already, of course this would be immensely helpful posted in an easy-to-find central location for newer members like me to find as a critical reference.

Thanks for any additional guidance if possible please, thank you!

For Officers, the main tool used by members is the United States Army Officer Registry,, these online viewing books go back to the War of 1812 against England.

Many times one does get somewhere with just a last name, this is the case of a dress uniform that has  rank and last name, name either written in it, or from the 1950s on a NAME Plate on it, you know the name tags as some call it , here man has Valor Decorations, i.e. Silver Star, Soldiers Medal etc, this then can be crossed referenced to a list of recipients, for the given war he was in.

While I don't have e the tools or the knowledge etc, items can go a long way in getting IDed if a Laundry Number is present, that's the  first initial + last 4 digits of serial number to make sure laundry was returned to the correct soldier. there are members skilled at this, these guys here how know all about that
