rtd_sf_eng Posted April 5 #1 Posted April 5 I need a confirmed ID on the oval. I've seen one quire similar to mine that was identified as the 149th Airborne Engineer Battalion but a search did not show any such airborne unit. So if any one can ID the oval, please post it. Thanks.

Tonomachi Posted April 6 #3 Posted April 6 I checked my reference and I also came up with a cut edge 139th Airborne Engineer Battalion oval (Photo 1 & 2). I also found a cut edge 12th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 8th Infantry Division oval (Photo 3 & 4).

patches Posted April 6 #5 Posted April 6 Tonomachi maybe the oval in OP since it is ME is for that jump unit in the 8th Div, but it wouldn't be the whole battalion as you know that wore it, for those who don't know it just A Company (Abn), A Co supports those two infantry and assorted jump units that made up the division's 1st Brigade, 1st Brigade (Airborne), this brigade goes off jump status in 1973, so plausibly this merrowed edge one he's got could of been worn in the very late 60s up till 1973. There are several "12th Airborne Engineer Ovals up on the Bay for those interested.
rtd_sf_eng Posted April 13 Author #6 Posted April 13 From the consensus I've read, I will go with the 12th Airborne Engineer Battalion. Now, after reviewing the tag for the 17th Airborne Division, the oval looks very much like the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion. But I have found out that oval designs were not just for one unit. Here is my collection of WWiI post-WWII ovals for the 307th (I believe). It's possible that some WWII airborne engineer units wore the same oval design. Comments are welcomed.
