shiftythomas Posted March 18 #1 Posted March 18 Hi everyone! I recently acquired a new N1 Deck Jacket and I need help figuring out where it came from. It has features that are consistent with a WW2 model, but it seems to be in way too good of condition to be an original. If it is a repro (likely) I can't figure out the maker. Any ideas based on the images from eBay?

Any ideas based on the images from eBay? Would a Repro have a Navy tag? I’m not familiar with tepros that much. Most don’t seem to have correct tags in them. Also, these were still being issued out, from WW2 stocks, well into the 1970s.
Salvage Sailor Posted March 18 #3 Posted March 18 Yes, they do. Look inside the pockets for a makers wash instructions/mfg tag (or evidence that it was removed) example
doyler Posted March 18 #4 Posted March 18 Looks like a repro to me. THe lining is also a clue as it looks synthetic material and the zipper is modern.
shiftythomas Posted March 18 Author #5 Posted March 18 If it is a repro, I want to know who the maker is. I won't get the item until Friday, so I won't be able to hunt for tags until then. I am hoping its a Buzz or Real McCoys.
sigsaye Posted March 18 #6 Posted March 18 Personal observation. I loved these jackets when I could get one. I got several of the OD Foul Weather Jackets, got a Blue version before retiring, and had one of these, early on, when I first went into the Navy and was still slim and trim😉. But, these were the best, the lining was warm and I loved the furry collar. At one time, the ship had no Foul Weather Jackets to give out, so they were giving out the brown leather Navy flight jackets. That was my least favorite. I worked on a flight deck at the time and needed to move. The flight jacket was not comfortable to do much more than sit around and look cool 🤣👍🏻⚓️
dmar836 Posted March 19 #7 Posted March 19 Zipper is a fake patina reproduction. I doubt doubt Buzz or RM would use that type of zipper. This is likely an asian repro. I hope it's your size because it would be a good coat to wear.

I'll get it in the mail tomorrow, so I'll be able to examine it more closely. Does the lining/fur look like alpaca or an alpaca blend to your eye?
dmar836 Posted March 19 #9 Posted March 19 I'm not sure but this is NOT an original N-1 if that's what you are hoping for. No offense intended. Should be plenty warm as-is. Dave
shiftythomas Posted March 19 Author #10 Posted March 19 Ultimately it doesn't matter. I'm just hoping for a good fit and durable, warm jacket!

I use the stuff. This would be a great jacket to wear when it gets cold. But, I farm, so go with Carhartt, because, I’d get grease, oil, paint, barbed wire snags and who knows what else on it. If it had been issued to me and hid itself in my seabag when I left, I’d have worn it out by now.
Salvage Sailor Posted March 19 #12 Posted March 19 Almost all of my dungarees, sweaters, watch caps, work jackets & deck jackets were worn to rags and disposed of decades ago..... except for what's still in my old Seabag which I stashed at my parents house when I transferred from the Pacific fleet to the Atlantic fleet. For years I've been teasing that I'll open up that time capsule one day and post all of the USN Cold War goodies inside. 1974 USN Seabag

When I made Chief, I gave or sold everything I had to other PO1s. All I kept, was a set of old melton wool blues, my SMCS Dress Blues, a set of CNT khakis and my Dinner Dress Blues
