aznation Posted March 17 #1 Posted March 17 Just some of my submarine related items. This was for the submarines commissioning on March 15, 1938, at the Portsmouth Navy Yard. Under the command of Lieutenant L. N. Blair, it served extensively during World War II, earning 12 battle stars. It famously completed 16 war patrols, the most of any U.S. Navy submarine. The vessel operated in the Pacific, including the Philippines, and was later sold for scrap in 1947. Pearl Harbor Submarine Base, Territory of Hawaii. This Price Muselite lighter still winds up and plays music. It's been awhile so I don't remember what song. The USS Bumper (SS-333) was a Balao-class submarine launched in 1944 that served in World War II, earning one battle star. It performed two war patrols in the Pacific, primarily in the Bungo-Suido Straits, before serving as a training vessel and later being transferred to the Turkish Navy in 1950 and served Turkey until she was decommissioned on August 11, 1976.
GWS Posted March 17 #2 Posted March 17 Wonderful items with background info. I love that Sub Base PH TH ashtray! I've been to the sub base at Pearl back in '67. My sister dated a sailor on the Seawolf SSN-575. That lighter is the first I've seen that plays a song. Great finds! Thanks. Steve
