eagle mtn Posted March 16 #1 Posted March 16 Hi all, this came in a pile of other things I was more interested in, but I’m curious to what it is thank you!
Solution atb Posted March 16 Solution #2 Posted March 16 104th Field Artillery. It appears to be an unfinished cloth version of the unit's Distinctive a Unit Insignia.
eagle mtn Posted March 16 Author #3 Posted March 16 Thank you @atb I forgot to mention that it is larger than usual sized unit insignias. (CIB for reference)
patches Posted March 17 #5 Posted March 17 It's as atb stated as to unit. It is for a unit of the New York National Guard, from the mid 1950s into the 60s. however these units whether in one of the two divisions of the NYNG, the 27th Armored or 42nd Infantry Divisions wore their Pocket Patches above the U.S. ARMY Tape in those days, even into the late 60s into the very early 80s when these patches were now subdued.
patches Posted March 17 #6 Posted March 17 Here's an example, the 107th Infantry PP 107th Infantry in the 42nd Infantry Division New York New York, which makes it depending on the year this shirt was worn, 1st Battle Group 107th Infantry in the late 50s early 60s, or after 1963 either the 1st or 2nd Battalions 107th Infantry. Note the wear above the U.S. ARMY Tape, something unique to all the units of the New York National Guard in the 50s into the 80s. The 104th Artillery by the way was in the old 27th Armored Division by 1960, its 1st Battalion, it was assigned sometime in the late 1950s with the PENTOMIC Restructure, before that it was in the 42nd Infantry Division of the NYNG, battalion now consisting of the 1st and 2nd Battalions, the 2nd Battalion stays with theb42nd Div, the 1st goes to the 27th Armd Div. so this 104th Arty PP could of been worn on a 42nd Div shirt pre 1959 or post 59 on a 27th Armd Div shirt.
patches Posted March 18 #7 Posted March 18 A 1st Battalion 104th Artillery 27th Armored Division Liner, post 1958, the 2nd Battalion of this unit was in the 42nd Infantry Division at this time.
