Navymm98 Posted March 16 #1 Posted March 16 LEGION OF MERIT OFFICER Medal grouping to Daniel Mulloney. I will let the photos speak for themselves! His resume is in 2nd & 3rd photos. Seems to be rather rare to have an LOM Officer medal awarded to a U.S. Officer, most were awarded to foreign officers, however I assume this has to do with his time with the Joint Chiefs of Staff?
USMCR79 Posted March 16 #2 Posted March 16 I am not seeing any indication from your paperwork that he was truly awarded the Officer grade of the LOM. I have seen certificates that have the wording "Degree of Officer" in the space between "Legion of Merit" and "To".
Navymm98 Posted March 16 Author #3 Posted March 16 Thats the odd part of this grouping. His wife passed away in Virginia. This came out of an auction house in MA. I had to bid on several lots, as it was being sold split up. I am sure there's a story as to why he had the medal but it must be lost to time.

You can try a FOIA request to NARA or The Department of Veteran Affairs to try and get his records to be 100% sure he was awarded the degree of officer for the legion of merit.
Teamski Posted March 18 #5 Posted March 18 Usually, these LOM's are named. Either he was given the wrong medal or this one was added to the group. It is a nice period piece nonetheless. -Ski
