mraven Posted March 15 #1 Posted March 15 First time post, I am looking for information on these two medals I recently came across. I have found a few threads on these two awards here, but I would like to try and get opinions on the originality of these medals, etc. Thanks in advance!
USMCR79 Posted March 15 #2 Posted March 15 The Haiti Medal should be numbered on the rim and have a thin planchet approximately 1/16" - It has been reribboned with an incorrect broach and I think the 1919-1920 Clasp is a reproduction. The West Indies medal looks like a replacement medal made in the 1920's by N.S. Meyer Company based on the antiqued copper finish, the broach looks correct but the Meyer medals were unnumbered. I think the numbering stamping is too deep which makes me think it was altered by someone in order to deceive a buyer. I don't consider myself an expert and if someone wants to add to this analysis, please do. Bill

But, I'd need a in person side-by-side with one I know to be original to compare finish and number font. Great thread here on the Haitian:
