Mikeym_us Posted March 5 #1 Posted March 5 I got this SPH-4 shell in last month . Turns out it's a ex AH-64 Apache AH-1 HSS helmet and since the AH-1 HSS assembly and mounting hardware are hard to come by I'll just rebuild this as a SPH-4 improved with the SPH-4/SPH-5 visor assembly. I have started some work as I have the rubber bolt hole grommets put in and have the earcup retainers temporarily put in just need the retainer screw set to come in that I ordered from Gibson and Barnes just need a liner boom mic swivel earcup foam and ear seals. I have a drop cord on order and have the visor assembly. Helmet shell is XL and manufactured by Bell Helmets.
Mikeym_us Posted March 22 Author #3 Posted March 22 Drop cord came in on the 21st and I installed it the same day. I have the ear seals on took me quite a long time to put them on with bad hands but got them on. rails installed and earcup retainer assembly and cross straps installed as well.
Mikeym_us Posted March 22 Author #4 Posted March 22 I am waiting on a few things along with visor cover screws before I continue on with this. But here are pictures of the drop cord installed into the helmet and the earcups are now wired and ready for the speakers and the foam inserts before I order the foam impact liner.
Mikeym_us Posted April 7 Author #5 Posted April 7 I added a new chinstrap to the earcup retainer and better photos.
Mikeym_us Posted April 7 Author #6 Posted April 7 I installed the AH-1HSS assembly but when the other visor screws I ordered come in I'll switch those out since the ones I used are too long and would interfere with a impact liner.
Mikeym_us Posted April 14 Author #7 Posted April 14 Finally finished the helmet the new screws showed up just before the liner showed up put those on and then put the liner in and added velcro for the TPL to attach to.
HUD69 Posted April 15 #8 Posted April 15 Great helmet, the part on the top mounted to a rod in the cockpit. That way the canon was aimed at where you looked. Flying around and focussing with one eye on the sight was not what I was made for.

You have a picture of the device on the canopy without the gunner in the way?
